Promoting Excellence in Education
As the collective voice of principals and vice-principals, we:
- Advocate for students
- Promote publicly funded education
- Influence education decision-making at all levels
- Foster positive relations among principals, vice-principals and the broader education community
- Work with government, district school boards and other members of the education community to ensure exemplary schools for Ontario’s students.
Membership
The OPC is a voluntary professional organization with over 5,000 Members.
You may become a Member of OPC if you:
- Are employed as a principal or vice-principal by a publicly funded district school board in Ontario or other government of Ontario agency that is funded by a Ministry of the government of Ontario
- Pay the required Membership fees
- Work in the field of education in Ontario
- Are not a member of the Ontario Teachers’ Federation.
Protective Services
The OPC Protective Services Consultants are experienced elementary and secondary principals. They provide advice, information and support tailored to the specific needs of principals and vice-principals. OPC General Counsel provides further support in protecting the interests of OPC Members.
Education Leadership Canada ®
Education Leadership Canada, a division of the Ontario Principals’ Council, offers multiple professional development opportunities for current and aspiring school leaders in Ontario.
ELC provides a comprehensive package of training and assessment opportunities for school principals and vice-principals. These include skills assessments, needs identification, mentoring support from experienced peers, workshop sessions, video-based training programs and learning opportunities via CD ROM and the Internet.
Ethics
Members of the Ontario Principals' Council operate within the ethical guidelines of the Ontario College of Teachers.
OPC Benefit Plans
In most districts, OPC Members, and supervisory officers who are Associates of OPC, have access to highly competitive benefits for the following insurance plans: long-term disability, accidental death & dismemberment, life, spousal life, dependent life, and critical illness insurance.
Additional Professional Services
As a professional association, OPC provides a number of additional services and supports to assist Members in their roles as administrators, including:

- Subscription to The Register, OPC’s quarterly magazine
- Networking and mentoring opportunities
- The student leadership award, provided to all Ontario public schools
- Links with other education associations.
OPC Learning Foundation
The OPC’s charitable foundation helps to provide better learning opportunities for children and youth. The mission of the Learning Foundation is to support positive learning environments and to identify and remove social, economic and physical barriers to learning. Funds raised from public and private sources are used for research, public awareness and projects to help remove existing learning barriers for children, youth and their families.
Quality Management System
The OPC operates under a quality management system that is registered to the ISO 9001:2000 international standard for quality management in the design and delivery of training and professional development programs, and the provision of support services. This quality management system ensures the highest level of products and services for OPC Members.

The Ontario Principals’ Council recognizes the importance of privacy and the sensitivity of personal information. We are committed to protecting any personal information we hold. In addition, our lawyers have a professional obligation to keep confidential all information they receive within a lawyer-client relationship. The OPC Privacy Policy outlines how we manage your personal information and safeguard your privacy.
If you don’t qualify for Membership with OPC, you may be eligible to become an Associate of the OPC.
Effective September 1, 2010, Membership fees will be $1078.00 per year (tax deductible) and are paid through Payroll Deduction, personal cheques or credit card. Fees are subject to change by resolution at the Annual General Meeting.
