We are seeking OPC Members who are highly qualified practising elementary and secondary principals to become a mentor for our New Administrator Support Program and other related professional learning offerings.


The program includes a Mentor-Coaching component where each participant will be paired with a mentor who will act as a coach for the duration of the program. The pairing process will take into account participant preferences and level of comfort with the facilitators. The nature of the discussions between the participants and the facilitators will be confidential and they will not report back any discussions with OPC or school boards. They will share with us general topics that are discussed to help inform the themes for the monthly learning sessions. 

Mentor Schedule

From 4:30 - 5:15 p.m. all mentors must be available for a required 45 minute coaching session with their paired mentees on the following dates: 

  • October 21, 2021

  • December 15, 2021

  • February 17, 2022

  • April 27, 2022

  • June 9, 2022

Selection Criteria

The applicant possess the following:

  • member of the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) in good standing

  • practising principal with recent, relevant and varied school experiences

  • exemplary school leader, as acknowledged by peers and supervisors

  • identified expertise in all areas of school leadership and facilitation

  • demonstrates a province-wide perspective

  • proficient in using various office programs including PowerPoint, Excel, Word and G-suite

  • demonstrates strong communication abilities in facilitating, speaking and writing

  • is dynamic, resourceful, well-read and informed

  • understands and demonstrates adult learning principles when engaging adult learners

  • demonstrates a “lead learner” stance as an educator

  • identified expertise in areas of school leadership, mentoring/coaching and facilitation

The following will be considered an asset:

  • experience in both elementary and secondary panels

Selection Process 

Our selection team will review and assess all applications based on the identified success criteria. Candidates invited to take part in an online interview via Zoom meeting (with video) will need to be available on September 21. This process also includes contacting references and ensuring balanced regional representation.

  • a curriculum vitae and

  • contact information for two references (one for a supervisory officer and one for a practising principal).

The successful independent contractor will need to be available by September 30.
