Using Joyce Epstein's Framework for community engagement, this module presents specific strategies for active involvement by all members of the community in increasing student success and closing the achievement gap.

Reflective Questions

  1. Link the Ministry of Education vision of parent engagement to your vision and detail what this vision would look like, sound like and feel like in your school.
  2. What discriminatory biases and systemic barriers to parent and community engagement do you perceive within your school and what concrete actions can be taken to overcome them?
  3. For each of the six types in Joyce Epstein's Framework for School, Family and Community Partnerships, describe your school's engagement.
  4. Describe how you would utilize your emotional intelligence to further engage parents and community in the life of the school and school staff and students in the life of the community.
