The Professional Learning (PL) Consultant plays a key role in designing and leading PL for educators and administrators. The Professional Learning Consultant collaborates extensively with the director of Professional Learning and Engagement, project coordinators and Additional Qualification (AQ) program leads to analyze Members’ learning needs, align resources, plan and coordinate programs and stay up to date on projects. The role provides direct support to the Director of Professional Learning and Engagement in the development of projects and proposals.

Learning opportunities may be provided during staff meetings or other sessions offered internally or there may be additional opportunities individuals can engage with voluntarily. 

Staff are expected to apply principles of anti-oppression and human rights and the acknowledgment of identity in the context of their specific roles in all their interactions.

Responsibilities

In addition to the list of duties below, the Professional Learning Consultant will complete other duties as assigned by the Director of Professional Learning and Engagement to ensure the success of the department. 

Planning and Collaboration 

  • Collaborate with the Director of PL and Engagement to determine Members’ learning needs, identify opportunities, design and plan for programs, sessions and projects. 
  • Collaborate to develop proposals, budgets, timelines across departments and with associations and external partners. 
  • Provide expertise and guidance in developing professional learning resources to support leadership development  
    • within a human rights and anti-oppression framework  
    • using a variety of recent, diverse and relevant resources and
    • founded on adult learning principles and inclusive design. 
  • Collaborate with the PL team to align resources, communications and efforts in support of projects and programs. 
  • Co-create proposals and/or content for district workshops. 
  • Communicate with project coordinators, partners and facilitators regarding ongoing projects, programs and PL sessions. 
  • Co-create annual PL Plan and proposals in collaboration with the PL team. 
  • Provide support for project coordinators on matters related to organization and communication strategies for various learning opportunities. 

Professional Learning Development  

  • Promote and help foster a culture of creativity and innovation to enhance learning experiences and address educational challenges. 
  • Model a lead learner stance as an educator and encourage innovative thinking that challenges current systems and structures. 
  • Develop and design new and current learning opportunities that support ongoing development needs of education leaders that consistently integrate current research, technological trends and innovative tools. 
  • Plan the development of professional learning sessions including determining topics, themes, content, appropriate facilitators, timing, format and sequencing of a wide range of professional learning sessions for OPC Members and districts. 
  • Liaise, plan and facilitate sessions/programs with external partners such as principal associations and learning organizations. 
  • Examine feedback from PL sessions to determine emerging topics and themes for learning, improvement and to ensure responsiveness of PL offerings (e.g., content, format, timing). 
  • Collaborate on the development of effective advertising and promotion of learning opportunities through various modes and platforms. 
Qualifications
  • Degree in Education or equivalent and a Master's degree in education or related field

  • Doctoral degree in education-related field considered an asset

  • Principal Qualifications 

  • Supervisory Officer Qualifications considered an asset 

  • Minimum five years experience as a principal

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to strategize and solve problems efficiently

  • High ethical standards and integrity

  • Strong teamwork and multitasking abilities

  • Expertise in promoting equity, belonging and cultural competence  

  • Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines  

  • Analytical mindset with the ability to assess educational programs, identify areas for improvement and implement evidence-based solutions

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey ideas and information to diverse audiences 

  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with educators, administrators and other partners

Working Conditions
  • Salary range: $61,948.20- $75,714 

  • Hybrid work model (up to 60% remote) 

  • Occasional work outside regular office hours may be required 

  • Other terms as outlined in the OPC’s polices and employment contract 

  • Expected Start Date: February 2, 2026
