Your eligibility for Long-term Disability (LTD) coverage and disability benefits is tied to your pension eligibility date. If you elect LTD Option 1, LTD Option 2 or LTD Option 5, you will not be eligible for coverage or to claim disability benefits after you become eligible for a 70 per cent unreduced pension (generally after 35 years of qualifying service).

If you elect LTD Option 3 or LTD Option 4, you will not be eligible for coverage or to claim disability benefits after you have reached the 85 factor (age plus working experience).

You are encouraged to do a check-up on your pension eligibility date and OPC Benefits profile on a regular basis to ensure that you are still eligible to maintain coverage. The OPC does not have access to pension information and will rely on Members to request termination of coverage when they are no longer eligible. Please contact the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan (OTPP) to determine your pension egibility.

Premiums paid over the eligibility date are limited to a maximum refund of four months under the group benefits policy.
