Bill 33 PassesLast week, Bill 33 Supporting Children and Students Act, received Royal Assent, making it law. The government did not hold any public hearings or consultations on the bill, so we were unable to express our concerns with a legislative committee, which is an important part of the democratic process. As front-line leaders, we have concerns about the powers that will be provided to the Minister of Education around school board operations and the mandatory implementation of police officers in schools. We released this statement to express our concerns, and urge the Minister to involve us in the next stage, as regulations related to the law are developed.
