On a personal note
October is Canadian Women’s History Month. Although women's rights have strengthened over the last century, we still do not have to look far for examples of gender-based discrimination and violence.
I want to recognize and applaud all the strong women across our provincial organization. I see you and I honour you. Let us continue to lift one another up in times of celebration and in times of challenge. To quote the great Maya Angelou: “Each time a woman stands up for herself, she stands up for all women.”
Affinity Spaces for Members
Fostering an environment of belonging takes intentional work. There are many ways to create spaces that foster belonging for students and staff. We also need to consider ourselves. The OPC coordinates identity-based affinity spaces for Members which can provide time and space for connections for members of under-represented groups, especially if you work in a primarily homogenous region.
