Did You Know?

The three provincial principal associations continue to advance the Did You Know? campaign as a monthly advocacy initiative grounded in data. This month highlights the impact of school violence on student learning.

Seventy-three per cent of principals and vice-principals report that violence in schools is interfering with learning in classrooms. These experiences reflect ongoing concerns about safety, well-being and the conditions needed to support effective teaching and learning.

Protective Services Team Services

The OPC’s Protective Service Team offers a range of services and resources to provide support, representation and advocacy to principals and vice-principals across a variety of areas. Our team aims to ease challenges Members face by offering Tip Sheets and direct support from consultants and lawyers to help navigate demanding situations.

We also deliver professional learning about employment-related matters and legal issues upon request. Members are encouraged to access resources on our site. If you are unsure which resources are most relevant, we encourage you to connect with us!

Short Term Disability Benefits and Sick Leave During Non-Work Periods

If you experience issues related to Short Term Disability Benefits (STDB) or sick leave deductions during non-work periods, please contact OPC Intake at 416-322-6600.

This includes situations where sick leave or STDB days are deducted during the Summer Break, March Break, Winter Break or other non-work days when there is no obligation to be at work, as well as situations where STDB pay is not provided pending an appeal.

Reporting these situations supports ongoing disputes, as outlined in the special President’s Message sent on January 14 and helps ensure we have accurate information about how Members are being impacted.

Principal Profile Expression of InterestThe Principal Profile is a key part of our public advocacy work, highlighting Members across the province and helping families and the public better understand the role of principals and vice-principals. We invite you to take part by sharing your experience and perspective.
