Public Statement
Today, the government introduced the Putting Student Achievement First Act, 2026, with proposed changes that would significantly reshape governance and learning conditions across Ontario’s education system. Based on our initial review, the OPC believes the bill falls short of its stated focus on accountability and student success. We are reinforcing the importance of principal and vice-principal voice and meaningful consultation through the legislative process to ensure changes reflect the realities of schools across Ontario. Reporting Violent Incidents
This is a reminder of your professional responsibility to report all violent incidents, including those you experience, witness or are made aware of during your workday.
The Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) defines workplace violence as acts, attempts or threats of physical force that could cause injury.
Accurate and consistent reporting is essential. It ensures that there is reliable provincial data which should be shared with local OPC executives to support effective advocacy for safer working conditions and for appropriate supports for students who need additional care.
Your reporting strengthens our collective voice and supports meaningful system change.
