The information below reflects a new practice put in place following the removal of the cost of the plaques from the OPC budget as part of the 2023-2024 budget approval process.

On September 26, 2023, Provincial Council approved a motion “that the Principal’s Award for Student Leadership Policy be retracted and removed from the OPC Policy Manual.”

In 1999, the Ontario Principals’ Council established the “Principal’s Award for Student Leadership.”  The principal of the school presented the award to a student who demonstrated leadership qualities.

Each spring, the OPC has a certificate template available on our website that can be printed with the student’s name for presentation to the recipient of the award for that year. Schools wishing to have a plaque prepared for the recipient can do so and the OPC will provide the official logo in the appropriate format. The OPC will not cover costs related to the production of plaques.

Schools or OPC locals are encouraged to continue the practice of adding names to the large plaque and displaying the plaque. With enough notice, the OPC can provide any graphic artwork required for the production of new plaques. Schools wishing to have a plaque prepared should contact Robin Davis at rdavis@principals.ca for the official OPC logo in the appropriate format.
