The Ontario Principals’ Council (OPC) is dedicated to advancing human rights within the education system, especially as it relates to educational leadership, fostering a culture of inclusivity, equity and respect for all individuals. We strive to create environments that promote the well-being and success of every student and work towards building a more just and inclusive society.

The OPC believes that all individuals, regardless of how they identify and within the wholeness of their full identity, are entitled to equal rights and opportunities. We reject all forms of discrimination, harassment and exclusion in accordance with the protected grounds of the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) and respect the rights and dignity of all.

We acknowledge the rights of First Nation, Métis and Inuit peoples and are committed to fostering a relationship based on respect and understanding. We recognize and support the importance of incorporating Indigenous perspectives, histories and cultures into educational practices, curriculum and experiences in collaboration with Indigenous communities. We commit to supporting the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s (TRC) Calls To Action (specifically #10, #62 and #64 and others related to education in schools) and to the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous People (UNDRIP).

The OPC acknowledges the importance of educational equity and is committed to addressing systemic barriers that perpetuate inequities in our education system such as anti-Black racism, anti-Indigenous racism, homophobia and transphobia, ableism, anti-Semitism and Islamophobia. We will continue to work to uphold the rights of the traditionally under-served and under-represented in schools and in society, prioritizing child protection and safety.  We commit to continued learning as an organization and to supporting our Members as they continue on their individual learning journeys.

The Ontario Principals’ Council is committed to upholding and promoting human rights in all aspects of our work. We believe in the inherent dignity, worth and well-being of every individual and are dedicated to fostering system and school leadership that promotes inclusive, anti-oppressive and equitable educational environments that respect and honour the diversity of students, staff and community.

The OPC commits to protecting and defending the human rights of school and system leaders, staff and students and will demand accountability from those who fail to do so.
