Destreamed Grade 9 Math

Webinar: Destreamed Grade 9 Math - Leading the Implementation

Title: Destreamed Grade 9 Math - Leading the Implementation.

Date: August 26, 2021.

Description: During this 75-minute webinar we will focus on the goals of de-streaming for the new curriculum to support student success for all -  including Black, Indigenous and racialized students, students from low-income households, as well as students with disabilities and students with special education needs. We will review some of the changes required for the implementation of the new curriculum. Then, we will turn our minds to the advantages of destreaming within the new curriculum that create the conditions for the success of all students, including those who have been historically and systemically disadvantaged.

We will discuss leadership moves and the importance of your role as an instructional leader in order to facilitate shifting school culture and the pedagogy required for implementation of the new curriculum. Dr. Chris Suurtamm, lead researcher and advisor to the Ministry of Education, will join us to guide our collective reflection. Join colleagues as we talk about what, why and how to implement the new destreamed grade 9 math curriculum.

 Professional Learning Networks

As part of the implementation process, it is important for school leaders to have opportunities to connect with one another to discuss successes and challenges. From July 2021 to March 2022, several Professional Learning Networks (PLNs) will meet every six to eight weeks to discuss and reflect on the implementation of the destreamed course. Through the PLNs, school leaders will have the opportunity to share resources and practices that have been useful at different steps of the implementation process. Association representatives will be present during the meetings of the PLNs to support the discussions and gather information to support resource development.
